Because of its ability to deal with the abundant infomationfrom various stations and substations, and to detect, identificate andeliminate the bad data, it has been used for real-time control of elec-tric power system as an important part to improve the security and relia-bility of power system operation. This paper derives the formulae usedfor estimation and makes a general review of the recent achievement ofthe research work in power system static-state estimation made by theinvestigators of advanced industrial countries-. It also presentsthe study of optimal theory applied to estimation algorism and simpli-fication of Newton's method in combination with P-Q de-coupling. Byuse of non-linear statistic theory, the detection and identification ofbad data are investigated. Numerical examples of 5-node and 18 nodesystems are given.
